Cullercoats FC Ladies will take part in the first FA Cup tie ever to be played at Links Avenue when they host Birtley Town tomorrow, Sunday 18th, September, in the first qualifying round of the competition.
Kicking off at 2PM, the match will see our young ladies play against a strong team from the Durham Premier League. Ladies team Manager, Sid Cameron, had the following to say,
“I never thought for one minute, six years ago when the team first started that we would be involved in an actual FA Cup game. Credit to the players who’ve stuck together through thick and thin, they deserve this chance to make club history.
It’s a huge day for us and the club, the lasses are super excited to be playing in a game of such importance. It’s a big ask to get a result as Birtley Town are an established team in the Durham Premier League.
Whatever the result, we are going to enjoy the day a hopefully we can give a good account of ourselves to really put the club and ladies football on the map.”
The game comes at a time when Ladies football is seeing a really strong growth period. The success of the Lionesses this summer has only seen the sport grow further which is great to see. Hopefully having this tie played at Links Avenue will encourage more girls in the local community to get involved in football at a young age.
Food and refreshments will be available to all supporters from the clubhouse, beginning just prior to kick-off.
